Happy Friday everyone! Today I wanted to share a little card I made based on something I saw on Pinterest. Pinterest is a HUGE source of inspiration for me and I regularly check into my Scrap Inspiration board for ideas when I’m feeling like I need a little push. My Scrap Inspo board doesn’t have layouts on it. (Those are on my Inspiring Pages board!) Instead it contains images that I find intriguing and ideas or techniques that I think would translate well into a paper crafting project.
The inspiration/pin for my project was this art work by Danny Ivan.
I loved the colorful blocks and how they were at different levels…some raised and some not. My first thought was to punch squares and build my card in a similar way as the inspiration piece. But in searching for my square punch (still haven’t found it!) I spotted this label punch and decided to go with a label shape instead of squares.
I picked out three papers (2 solids cardstocks and the map pattern above) and started by punched many labels out of each. I only used the big label from this punch. Then I assembled the rest of my supplies:
To make some labels pop up higher than others (like in the inspo piece) I decided to stack them on top of each other. You could use adhesive foam for this instead, but I wanted it to look more solid. I stacked and glued the labels in varying numbers to get varying heights. And some labels are just one layer. Next it was time to stamp my sentiment. I placed one label down on the grey cardstock to get the angle for my stamping. I used a Studio Calico stamp along with some of the new SC Color Theory ink. I used Clean Slate and it’s such a pretty charcoal grey! I took this photo right after I stamped the image. It has dried to a slightly lighter color and the gaps in the stamping caused by the textured cardstock have filled in some. Love that the ink does that!
The rest of the card came together quickly as I just adhered my stacks of labels onto the grey cardstock and trimmed the overlapping edges. I decided to use some enamel dots (instead of the brads pictured above) in between the labels. Finally I adhered the grey cardstock onto my card base and this quick card was done!
(I added in the ways after I was finished with the card and I decided it needed something more. I’ll share how I did that in another post.)
Do you use Pinterest for inspiration? If you have a scrappy inspiration board, post a link here. I’d love to follow your board for more great ideas!
