I haven’t created a handmade card in quite a while. But lately I’ve been feeling the urge to put aside the photos and just play with paper on a smaller scale. I’ve said before that I’m a huge fan of the Studio Calico Digital Stamp Brushes offered each month. They coordinate with the kits and they really are a bargain when you consider all the ways you can create with them. Today I thought I’d share how I used the “Thinking of You” design available in the Office Hours Card Kit Digital Stamp Brushes set in two different ways.
The brushes come as .png and .abr files, which means you can use them as a cut file (after tracing the .png in Silhouette Studio software) or as a digital brush in photoshop. For the first card, I used the design as a digital brush, printing it out in a light grey onto my card base. I used a very light grey so that I could trace over the design with a black fine tip sharpie marker. This gives it a real hand drawn look… and is very relaxing for some reason! Finally I hand-stitched some hearts in various shades of pink/purple around the sentiment.
For this second card I used the design as a cut file, enlarging it quite a bit from it’s normal stamp size and then cutting it with my Silhouette. I love this option with the digital stamp brushes! I used some watercolor paper and the new Mister Huey’s Watercolors to create a rainbow background and then pop-dotted (is that a word?!) the die cut sentiment on top.
So, what do you think? Are you a fan of digi brushes? Do you prefer them printed or die cut?
