It’s reveal time for the January 2014 kit at Studio Calico! This month’s kit, Copper Mountain, is full of happy colors and fun embellishments. (Puffy heart stickers? LOVE those!) The first layout I did with the main kit only was inspired by this pin on pinterest. I loved that grey patterned paper in the main kit…subtle tone-on-tone on the A side and then a bright, happy stripe on the B side. It reminded me of Dorothy opening the door when she lands in Oz and the picture goes from black and white to color. So, I thought it would be nice to show both sides of that paper by folding back a flap and lightly hand stitching it down. The title is my own design and was cut with my silhouette.
I kept my Disney pictures out for the second main kit only page I did. Loved the woodgrain paper contrasted with the bright blue sky over the castle in the photo. And of course that veneer circle die cut is amazing and fun to fill with lots of hearts. I die cut “kingdom” out of the grey cardstock in the kit and just inked over it with some Brilliance Platinum Planet to give it some sparkle.
For this page I used the “love” cut file from the Journaling Card Cut Files pack. I enlarged it to fill the 12×12 page and removed the rectangle around it. I loved the triangle paper design, but thought it was hard to read the “love” part in that pattern, so I used some letterpress ink and my brayer to color it a solid navy blue. I had no idea if it would work, but it did! The ink coverage was awesome…much better than paint.
Finally, my last page uses just the High Point add on. I designed the “vote” title and cut it with my silhouette. Then used a photo for the “o”. My 5th grader ran for Vice President in the fall and won. I wanted to get a layout done to remember that and his slogan… Vote for Jack, he’s got your back. ha! I thought the school themed papers here and the colors were perfect for this! The die cuts included in this kit (stars and globes) are awesome.
Just a reminder… kits for non-subscribers go up for sale at midnight tonight (so the link to the kits won’t work for non-subbers until then). Happy Reveal!
