Well, Monday came and went and I didn’t get around to posting this. As did Tuesday. But hello, Wednesday…here I am!
I’ve been a part of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) for…oh…I’ve lost track now. Maybe 5 years? And for most of those 5 years, I’ve been involved in the leadership for coming up with the group crafts or creative activities that the moms do in the meeting. As much as I would love doing a paper type craft every time, I don’t think the rest of the moms would enjoy it quite as much. 😉 So, I try to come up with a whole lot of different types of crafty things we can do 1.) in a matter of minutes (we only have 10-30 minutes usually!) and 2.) that fit our budget (which is about $3 per mom per craft). It can be a challenge sometimes! I want to start posting some of the crafts we do here on my blog to show you some cute things you can make for little time and money. I usually find the ideas online myself and then often end up tweeking them slightly to fit our needs. Anyways…
here’s the craft we did last meeting. A stamped washer necklace that can be personalized with your childrens’ names, a word like “love” or “faith”, or even a scripture reference if you want. Here’s my sample on my little Pink Paislee model I made several years ago.
I had to use two washers in different sizes to fit all my kiddo’s names on! Here you can see the bigger one that hangs behind the little one.
- Washers in various sizes. Mine are 1 inch and 3/4 inch in diameter.
- A stamp set. We got ours here.
- A dangle bead or pearl. (You don’t have to have this, but I think it classes it up a bit. We got them from this etsy shop.)
I recommend getting lots of extra washers, b/c you’ll find that it takes a few to practice on and mess ups are inevitable! You just pick out the letter you want, line it up on the washer where you want it, hold firmly (very firmly!), and hammer! Don’t be tempted to give it lots of little taps. You need to just whack it really hard with the hammer like three times. The stamps are rather slippery and every whack is a chance for it to slip slightly and blur the image. This is where all those mess ups come in! You also need to make sure you are doing this on a really, really hard surface. The garage floor is perfect. Or cement sidewalks. NOT your kitchen table, granite countertops, etc. Believe me!
Then, just add a chain or even a pretty ribbon, and viola… your own personalized stamped necklace. And wouldn’t these make great and inexpensive Christmas gifts?! Have a great day!
