I know…. two posts in two days on this blog?! Impossible! But I just got home from having another ultrasound today and this pic is just too cute not to share. We had a couple of very stressful days about five weeks ago when we went in for our 20 week ultrasound. My OB thought the baby had some troubling choroid plexus cysts on his brain (different from what the doctor had seen before) and they found that he has a two vessel umbilical cord. Normally, a baby has a three vessel cord… 2 arteries and one vein. Our little guy has one artery and one vein. And while this is somewhat common (like 1 in 100 births) it can also be a sign that there are other issues. AND two abnormalities like the cysts and the cord issue could be soft markers for Trisomy 18. So, we spent 3 days reading WAAAAAY too much about Trisomy 18 on the internet. It’s not something I had heard of before and the prognosis for babies with this is not good. I was sobbing a couple of times reading the stories of families who have gone through this awful diagnosis. But a few days later we went in for a very detailed level II u/s with a high risk OB, and he totally reassured us and set our minds at ease. It seems those “cysts” my OB was concerned with are probably just a normal variation in brain development. And the cord issue…while still there and something to be aware of… seems to be an isolated, unrelated coincidence. Such an answer to prayer!
Anyways, I’ve totally digressed here…. when you have a two vessel cord, they like to do a fetal echocardiogram to really make sure there isn’t a corresponding heart defect along with the cord issue. THAT’s what I was there for today. And the good news is…. his heart looks just perfect! The whole reason for this post though is to share this sweet photo.
Can you make out the outline of his little face…nose, eyes, forehead, mouth? The best part is that thing near his forehead… it’s his FOOT! He’s also all cuddled in with his hands and a “bunch of umbilical cord” (according to the tech). It doesn’t look so comfy with his foot up on his forehead, but I guess he’s okay in there! LOL
And while I’m sharing baby stuff… I’ll share a couple belly pics Connor took last week.
He did a good job… although he couldn’t do the vertical thing so well, so we have shots of my head and no belly or belly and no head. I’m going with all belly here! 😉
I also thought I’d post this (which I still haven’t seen in person!!! has anyone yet?!)
Why yes, that IS my layout on the July cover of Scrapbook Trends! Yay!!!!! And that little doll in the photo is my niece, Kendall. Love her little pose!
Hope you are having a great day! The kids have been in VBS this week, so it’s been a bit refreshing to have a few moments to myself! Whew!
